Holistic Education

Holistic Education

  • The Gurukul holistic approach to education addresses the development of the person as a whole, extending beyond the boundaries of the classroom and transforming the learner at the levels of knowledge, attitude, and practice.

  • This is achieved through an integrated set of learning experiences that address the student's needs in all four aspects of the self, namely – Body (Physical), Mind (Mental), Heart (Emotional/Social), and Spirit (Spiritual).

The Gurukul Holistic Approach

The curriculum in the Gurukuls is designed in coherence with the National and State Educational policy. With structured learning experiences, the curriculum ensures that the character and personality of every learner are founded on the principles of peace, love and compassion, that in turn enhances their cognitive potential and grade-level academic achievements.

  • Festival celebrations reinforce secularism, unity and equality.

Heart

Spirit

Being mindful of every thought, word, and action is the key to creativity and responsibility. At Gurukul, we endeavour to continuously reinforce the art of living mindfully at work and play.

Teachers plan their lessons to engage children in thinking beyond the concept, connecting it to the learner’s life, thereby making learning a mindful activity focused on bringing about behavioural change. This enables children to develop their character and personality, making them confident in distinguishing right from wrong and making decisions aligned with their principles and courage.

  • Daily assembly activities for character and personality development – Thirukural, value education through a skit, tableau, mime, talks on the day’s significance and great people, discussion on current happenings – both good and bad, kindles their mind.
  • Yoga for achieving inner peace.
  • Rules of life are learnt through sports and games.
  • Confidence-building activities like talent hunts and events.
  • Expose children to community service activities like Scouts and Guides, Junior Red Cross Society, Road Safety Patrol and National Cadet Corp (NCC).
  • Create social responsibility by engaging children in medical camps, health and sanitation campaigns and rallies.
